2020 Women on Boards tracks, analyzes and publishes the gender composition of the boards of directors of Russell 3000 companies, the largest US-traded stocks, representing 99% of all incorporated equity securities in the U.S.

Our 2020WOB Gender Diversity Index (GDI) annually compares the percentage of women on these public company boards, citing the size of each board, state located, and industry sector. Based on percentage of women directors, each corporation is ranked:

W

Winning ‘W’ Companies: 20% or more women

T

Transforming ‘T’ Companies: 1 woman

V

Very Close ‘V’ Companies: 11-19% women

Z

Zero ‘Z’ Companies: No women

  • W Winning = 20% or more women
  • V Very Close = 19% or Less women

2020 Women on Boards annually publishes the Gender Diversity Index (GDI) which measures the percentage of board seats held by women on the Russell 3000 list, and reports on progress by company size, state, sector and 2020 Women on Boards ranking.

Reports from 2011 to 2017 were based on the 2010 Fortune 1000 list. After reaching the goal of 20% boards seats held by women in 2017, we enlarged the database of companies we track to the Russell 3000.
